  • Aero the Acrobat 2 - by Chrono Digger

    Introduction:

At the time the first Aero the Acrobat game was released, it seemed that every company was scrambling to create a mascot game. Nintendo had Mario, Sega had Sonic the Hedgehog, and NEC had Bonk. And as it turns out, Sunsoft acquired the rights to the Iguana-developed game Aero the Acrobat and that soon became their mascot. And as you will see in all future Sunsoft games, Aero the Acrobat is always seen alongside the Sunsoft logo. Aero the Acrobat was a great game, albeit a tad on the difficult side and the control could have used a little tweaking in certain areas, but overall a very good side-scroller with a lot of potential. And with the sequel, Aero the Acrobat 2, that potential really shines through. In fact, even as good as Aero 1 was, Aero 2 is that much better. More moves, tighter control, and much better graphics make this one of the best sequels I have ever played. Aero thought he had defeated the evil Edgar Ektor in the first Aero game, but surprise, he's back and meaner than ever. Now Aero must once again find Ektor and destroy him once and for all before he carries out his diabolical "Plan B". And believe me there is much more to the story but I am trying to keep it short and simple.

    Graphics [9/10]:

I honestly thought that the graphics in the first Aero game were very good, that is until I good a look at Aero 2. Although the graphics aren't the best I have seen on the SNES, they are without a doubt right up there. Beautiful use of the Super Nintendo's extensive color palette, not to mention excellent detail in all of the game's levels really make this game a visul treat. And thankfully Aero's animations are much better in this game than in the first one. Like I said earlier everything that needed improvement in the first game was well taken care of for this sequel.

    Music and Sound [8.5/10]:

I must admit I almost gave the game a 9 but I just thought the music could have been alittle better. It's really good in some places and really annoying in others. I will say that for those of you who played the first Aero game you will immediately recognize the music and sound effects. They are as distinctive in this game as they were in the first. A kinda circus-style music theme coupled with some of the wildest sound effects I have ever heard make the music and sound of Aero a very interesting audio experience.

    Game Play [9/10]:

Now here is where a LOT of improvement was made in the sequel. My main complaint about the first Aero game was that at times the control was just a little too loose and sporadic for my taste. I also thought that Aero could have used a few more moves and my wishes all came true for the sequel. Oustanding control and a good variety of moves make the game a joy to play. I can't express just how much better it is this time around. I was also very impressed with the layouts of the levels in Aero 2. I especially liked the hidden areas and items. Made playing the game feel a lot like a Super Mario Bros. game. Not to mention that it really added to the replay value of the game. Kudos to Sunsoft and Iguana for tweaking the gameplay. It really paid off!

    Challenge & Replay [10/10]:

Although Aero 2 isn't nearly as difficult as the first game, you're still gonna get a run for your money. It's not easy by any means. And with all of the hidden areas and items in the game you are sure to keep coming back for more. It's just one of those games that is hard to put down. And the game is big enough to provide many hours of challenge and enjoyment to players of all ages.

    Conclusion/Overall [9/10]:

Overall if you liked the first Aero the Acrobat, you are gonna love Aero 2. And if you didn't find the first Aero to your liking, you might wanna seriously consider getting this one. It's almost like a completely different game. And I mean that in the best way possible. And finally for those of you who are thinking that Aero 2 is just another typical mascot-copycat game, think again! Aero is the real deal! Now we can all just hope that Sunsoft decides to make another Aero game soon. I miss the little guy! Goofy t-shirt and all! : )
